This demonstrates how to generate and store a seed phrase in Vault12 for use in initializing your crypto wallet. Once stored, your phrase is automatically backed up and ready for your Guardians to help you protect.
In this guide, we will discuss how to use Vault12 to generate and then automatically back up a new seed phrase.
Note: The terms "seed phrase" and "Backup code" are used interchangeably.
Once that's done, the seed phrase can be used to initialize the preferred wallet of your choice.
Before you complete these steps, you will want to check out our Wallet Guides. We've compiled instructions for security options for the most popular wallets - including details on how to initialize or import a seed phrase (if supported by the wallet).
To generate a seed phrase in Vault12 and use it to initialize your wallet, you will complete the following steps:
- Create a Digital Vault and complete its setup.
- Choose the button to "Add Asset," then select "Backup Code."
- Initialize your wallet by entering each word generated by Vault12 into your wallet.
- Save the backup code into your Vault.
1. Confirm Digital Vault setup
In order to generate a Backup code, you must have a working Digital Vault. If you have not created a Digital Vault, and assigned Guardians to protect it, please follow these instructions.
2. Generate a new seed phrase
To generate a new seed phrase, go to your Vault12 Dashboard and click on "Add Asset." This gives you several options - select "Backup Code," which will enable you to generate and add seed phrases.
Select a Wallet vendor, or search for the Wallet that you plan to use. If you don't see your wallet, you can add a custom wallet name.

3. Configure and Generate Backup Code
For this example, we will select the BRD Wallet type. You will be asked to choose how many words will be in your generated code. Not all wallets support all of these options, so it's worth checking your Wallet documentation to decide which option is best for you. In general, the more words in the seed phrase, the more secure it is.
Our BRD Wallet is ready for 12 words.

Inheritance and long term storage for CryptocurrencyVault12 Explainer
Vault12 Product Demo
Vault12 Digital Inheritance is the first solution to offer a simple, direct, and secure way to ensure cryptocurrency, NFTs and other digital assets can be accessed by future generations.
Digital Inheritance enables investors to designate an individual who will inherit their entire portfolio of digital assets stored in a secure Vault once the time comes, eliminating undue risk and the need to continually update an inventory or continually issue updated instructions which can result in privacy leakage.
Designed to be used alongside traditional hardware, software and online wallets, Vault12 helps cryptocurrency owners, professional cryptocurrency traders, and high net worth investors safeguard their digital assets without storing anything in the cloud or in fact any one single location. This increases the protection and decreases the risks of loss.
The Vault12 app helps you recover, back up, and provide legacy inheritance for all your digital assets, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, NFTs, other cryptocurrencies, secrets like keys, seed phrases, PIN codes, digital art, and of course, your crypto wallets.
Whether your digital art is suitable for a phone, or represents much higher resolution multimedia, make sure that you have backed up a copy in case the resource link is disrupted in the future. Digital art can easily be added to the Vault either via the mobile app or via the desktop utility. Once you have stored your artwork in your Vault, it will also benefit from inheritance once you set that up in your app.
As a creator you can use Vault12 to safeguard not just your NFT and crypto wallets, but also original digital artwork. Project creators will always have to deal with multiple wallets - inventory, treasury as well as future royalty wallets.
Vault12 safeguards your project assets, increasing protection and decreasing the risks of loss, whilst ensuring that everything is ready to go to be passed onto future generations, when the need arises.
